Why Heat a Battery?

Lithium-ion batteries lose up to 50% of their rated capacity at 0°C (32°F) and will not accept a charge below -7°C (19°F). For electric vehicles, this can mean half the designed driving range. For stationary storage, it can cut backup time in half.

Calienté battery heaters are engineered to solve this problem. Each part is custom-designed to your specific battery dimensions, voltage, and wattage. NRE ranges from $2,500 to $4,000 and samples are typically available in 4-6 weeks.

For commercial EV’s, our heaters efficiently warm battery packs to -7°C, enabling effective charging while in plug in mode. Once charging begins, Calienté heater foils supplement internally generated heat to bring the pack to optimal operating temperature faster.

Calienté pad heaters can also function as a safe, rapid discharge resistor, allowing excess power to be dissipated during regeneration or in the event of a crash.

Battery Heating Options

Calienté heater pads are the most time-, energy-, and cost-efficient way to heat battery systems.

  • Ultra-thin design: 0.011 in (0.28 mm)

    • Between cells
    • Wrapped around cells or modules
    • Bonded directly to a cold plate beneath a module
  • Delivers faster heat-up times with better temperature uniformity across cells
  • Acts as a dielectric barrier between cells, modules, and cold plates
  • Minimal impact on cooling performance

Calienté heaters are available in:

  • Self-regulating PTC designs (65°C or 90°C) for built-in safety
  • Fixed-wattage designs for maximum heating performance

PTC heater pads increase resistance 8–12× near the regulating temperature, reducing power output to near zero and eliminating the risk of overheating. They also reduce the number of redundant safety layers required, lowering overall system cost.
